Signing up for your second, literature-based presentation

September 14, 2007 at 3:01 pm | In Uncategorized | 24 Comments

Please use this thread to select topics for your second presentation.

To clarify: tool presentation = #1; literature-based presentation = #2. The first batch of presentations gives you a spread of technologies to choose from; the second batch gives you things to think about as you implement your chosen tool into a K-12 context.

As usual, I’ll list a bunch of topics and you use the comments to select which one you’d like to do. First-come, first-served, and I’ll put together a schedule once I have a critical mass of volunteers.

Note:

  • There are fewer topics than there are people. Then again, some of the topics are especially complex. So: some presentations will be partner-presentations. For example, two (or more!) people can present on standards and the standards movement; once everyone is signed in, you should coordinate and plan to do a group presentation.
  • Some topics go together like peanut butter and chocolate, so those will take place on the same day, and some coordination between the presenters is encouraged. For example, the Digital Disconnect and the Digital Divide are best presented in the same session.
  • I’ll be doing the first topic listed, so that one’s done.
  • If you don’t see anything you like and have something else that you think is especially worthwhile, suggest it!

Topics

  1. (Designing for the classroom: PCK, TPCK, and standards–NETS, teacher ed associations)
  2. Digital divide
  3. Digital disconnect
  4. Copyright and fair use
  5. Trends in K-12 extracurricular tech use
  6. Classroom assessment
  7. Standards & the standards movement
  8. Scaffolds, the Zone of Proximal Development, and teaching and learning with tech
  9. Tech instruction for pre-service teachers
  10. Professional development for in-service teachers
  11. Technology audits for K-12 schools
  12. Ed research 101: designs, interpretability
  13. Educational technology crisis; need for research that advances the field (-this topic is especially recommended for doc students…)

  1. I would like to do the “Copyright and fair use” – Peicheng

  2. I’d like to do copyright and fair use as my topic if that’s okay!

  3. Oops! I just saw Peicheng’s post! How about scaffolding instruction?

  4. I would be happy to prensent on the “classroom assessment” topic.

    –Lifang

  5. Holy smokes but you guys are quick–and alert, this late on a Friday afternoon! (For those coming late to the party: The thread was started at 3:01; it’s now 3:42….) Terri: either is fine with me. If you two want to partner on the copyright and fair use topic, that would make sense: one does copyright law, one does Fair Use conventions (since no law exists…). Or if you want to do scaffolding, that’s awesome, too. You have dibs on that topic; it’s yours to hold or drop.

  6. If Terri decides to drop the scaffolding topic I would really like to present on it as I see it being significant in my future classroom.

  7. I would like to present on Digital Divide.
    Jhumur

  8. I would like to present on professional development for in-service teachers.

  9. I would like to present on Classroom Assessmnet.

  10. Sorry, I did not see. Lifang has already posted it. If it would be ok if we divide the topic into two: One for Behavioursit assessment, one for Constructivist assessment. I would be happy to present either of these types. Just let me know.

  11. I would like to present on Digital Disconnect.

  12. I guess I’ll do “fair use” for my presentation and let Matt do scaffolding instruction. Should Peicheng and I do ours “together” or as two separate presentations?

  13. I would like to do Tech instruction for pre-service teachers.

  14. I would like to do standards and the standards movement.

  15. While I’m not a doctoral student, I would like to present something related to ‘Educational technology crisis; need for research that advances the field’. This topic seems pretty broad though, do you have anything more specific you would like me to focus on?

  16. Trish–I do; I’m linking the resources into Blackboard for each presentation (so don’t worry–you’re not starting from scratch on any of these!). For your topic, look for four items: “Technology and Teacher Education,” “Advancing the Field,” “Reading and math software evaluation,” and “More Questions than Answers” (which responds to the eval).

  17. I would like to do tech audits for k-12 schools

  18. Thanks Terri, I appreciate it!

  19. Demet has talked to me about our partner-presentation. Delmet would present on Constructivist assessment and I would do the Behavioursit assessment topic.

  20. I would like to (in addition to or in association with ALI) present on professional development for in-service teachers.

  21. Hello,
Becky and I may be presenting on the topic: – Zone of Proximal Development / Vygotsky. Is that a possibility? Thanks.

  22. Hi,
Bolu and I will be presenting on the topic: Zone of Proximal Development/Vygotsky, if it is okay for us to present together.

  23. If we cannot present together I would be interested in the topic-Internet Safety.

  24. My first choice would be something with technology and mathematics, but I’m not sure what that would be. Otherwise, I can do Ed research (designs and interpretability).
