TBTE 415 class members:

  • I found this information on college blogger scholarship that some of you may be able to apply.
  • The Daniel Kovach Scholarship Foundation has announced the submission deadline for their annual $10,000 college blogger scholarship. Full details and the nomination form are available at: http://www.collegescholarships.org/our-scholarships/blogging.htmApplication Deadline: October 6, 2007

    Award Dates: November 8 & 9, 2007, at the Blog World and New Media
    Expo in Las Vegas

    Requirements:

    * Student blog must contain unique and interesting information (no spam bloggers)
    * Student blogger must maintain their own individual blog or blog on a community blog
    * Student blogger must currently attending full-time in post-secondary education in the United States
    * Student blogger must maintain a 3.0 GPA
    * Student blogger must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident

    Any college student with a personal or professional blog is encouraged to apply. Student bloggers may also be nominated by friends or family.

    Application entries will be accepted until Midnight, PST on Oct. 6th. Ten finalists will be chosen from the entries received, and public voting will begin at 9am EST on Oct. 8th to elect an exceptional student blogger for the $10,000 scholarship. The grand prizewinner will be announced at the Blog World and New Media Expo to be held
    November 8-9, 2007 in Las Vegas.

    Site visitors, students, and other bloggers will be invited to vote for their favorite student blogs. The winning blog, as well as runners up, will be featured on the CollegeScholarships.org website.

  • Dr. Bishop and Dr. Cates have opportunities for grad students to pick up some work. I think Dr. Cates’ project has a stipend attached. Follow up with me if you’re interested.
  • As mentioned in class, Lehigh University Forum is funding Student Research Grants “to support individual research projects furthering their education.” Hey–sounds like what you’re doing in this class, right? “Preference is given to undergraduates, but graduate students with meritorious projects outside their thesis work are also considered. The grants normally do not exceed $500 and usually are smaller, e.g., $100-200.” …”Unless specified in the proposal, research performed under a fall grant should be completed by the bbeginning of the spring semester.”

        • Signature of faculty advisor who is willing to monitor the research (that would be me, I assume)
      • Title
      • Background information
      • Objective
      • Approach to the problem
      • Significance in relation to your educational goals
      • Estimated time for completion
      • Budget
      • References (feel free to list me, of course!)
      • Human subjects: Description of the appropriate safeguards and how they are to be implemented. See Office of Research and Sponsored Studies for further information.
      • Optional: Letters of recommendation (I’d be happy to write one)
    • Due date: October 12
    • Awards announced: October 26
