Fall 2007 opening survey

To begin this course for the fall 2007 iteration, I’d like to collect some information about the members of the class. Since this information is useful/interesting not just to me but to the other members of the class, we’ll do it in the form of a blog post. So: please respond to this blog post with the following information (and look in the comments for my responses):

        TLT – tenure! Started in Fall 2007, hope to be celebrating in, oh, the Spring of 2013

        Taught secondary social studies and language arts for ten years in the US, Haiti, and Saudi Arabia; taught tech integration classes at UVA for three. You can get the specifics from my CV.

        Informal experiences…can’t think of any at the moment.

        In five years I hope to be right here, doing this exact thing.

        Personal learning goal: I’d like to learn more about CSS.

        I can be a resource for people who are having difficulty with wikis.

      2. I started Instructional technology MS program in fall 2006. I intend to finish it by 2007.I had a teaching experience in a middle school for one and half year in India.I hope to be a school teacher or a staff in a an educational setting.
        Personal learning goal: I want to be a technology fluent person.In this course I would like to learn more about CSS.I can be a resourse for people who are having difficulty with using tools.

        3. All of my formal teaching is as a student teacher when I was an undergraduate student at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina.

        4. I used to work at Cityspace DayCare Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania and the YMCA in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. These are both a summer camp program and a before/afterschool child care program for children in K-6 grade

        5. In 5 years I hope to be a technology consultant for either a school, university, or a regular business.

        6. I want to learn a little bit about different programming languages other than HTML and Flash ActionScript.

        7. I can be a resource for people who are having difficulty with pretty much any kind of technology.

        2. Masters of Science in Instructional Technology- I began the program in fall of 2006 and plan to complete at the end of this semester
        3. Formal Experience- Before beginning this program as a full time student I taught 4 years of middle school math and science in MD.
        4. Informal experience- spent time working as a camp councilor

        2- Learning Sciences and Technology- Phd. I started my program and I intent to graduate at 2010.
        3-Formal Experience- I have a master’s degree from my country ,Turkey. As part of my degree, I taught to grades ranging from 6th-12th both in USA and in Turkey.
        4- Informal experience- I helped my classmates and tutored them
        5- Be an active researcher in my field and an instructor in a university
        6- Learn more about the use of technological social learning tools in schools.
        7- I can be a resource for people who are having difficulty with teaching philosophies.

        2. M.S. in Instructional Technology. I started the program in fall 2006 and intent to graduate in Spring 2008.
        3. Formal Teaching experience- I taught computing courses at a high school for 5 years in China.
        4. Informal Teaching experience- a tutor on Chinese speaking in the winter of 2006.
        5. Be a programming expert in the schooling field.

        Secondary certification + MEd
        I started as a freshman four years ago and I plan on finishing in the coming spring of 2008
        This past summer I was a faculty member at Lehigh Valley Summerbridge and had the opportunity to teach pre-algebra to 7th and 8th grade students.
        I have participated in various sports camps over the past 5 summers.
        I hope to be teaching high school mathematics and hopefully coaching baseball or ice hockey.
        I would like to continue to familiarize myself with the various technologies that can be easily applied in a classroom setting (clickers, brainpops, personal website, etc.)
        I can be a resource for people who are having difficulty with directions around Lehigh’s campus…and maybe PowerPoint.

        2. M.S. in Instructional Technology. I started the program in 2004 and I will finish in the spring.
        3. I taught 4th grade for 12 years then developed an interest in technology. I have been an elementary technology teacher for 4 years now.
        4. Parent of 3 boys – lots of “helping with homework,” Sunday school teacher, youth leader, kids scouting program . . .
        5. My goal for the next 5 years is to continue what I’m doing – working with elementary age student – but become better at integrating technology into the elementary school setting.
        6. Learn more about applications and technology tools that can support and enhance an elementary program.
        7. I can be a resource for anyone interested in applying technology to an elementary school setting.

      9. 1. Michael Cavallaro
        2. Masters of Science in Instructional Technology. I started in fall 06 and will finish in fall 08.
        3. Formal Teaching – Adult Evening School – Introduction to Computers/Introduction to MS Office
        4. Informal Teaching – I have conducted numerous trainings for K12 teachers and Administrators on
        various software programs.
        5. In 5 years,I hope to be a Technology Director or CIO for a K12 School District.
        6. Expand my knowledge on how technology is used in the classroom.
        7. I can be a resource for anyone having difficulty with hardware or software ranging from OS to applications on PC and Mac.

        2. MEd in Secondary Education. I started this semester I don’t have a end date yet.
        3. Formal Teaching Experience – Three different Student teaching experiences in High school and middle school history and social studies in Virginia.
        4. Informal Experience – I was a girl scout leader and did a lot of baby sitting.
        5. In Five years… I want to be a middle school history teacher in either Virginia or Pennsylvania.
        6. Personal Goal – Learning more about technology that can be used to engage students in my subject.
        7. I can be a resource for people needing help with writing or grammer.

      11. 1. Cindy Adams
        2. LST doctoral program. I started in fall 2006 and intend to graduate in 2012.
        3. Formal teaching experience: Experimental Foods while getting MS degree at Rutgers.
        6 years of teaching biology and nutritional biochemistry at NCC.
        4. Informal teaching experience: 5 years as a camp counselor/swim instructor/canoe instructor
        15 years as a Girl Scout Leader (K-8).
        15 years as a Health Educator in community, corporate and academic settings
        3 years instructing biotechnology to secondary students and their teachers.
        5. Want to enhance science instruction.
        6. In this class, I’d like to learn more about what types of technology are being used successfully by local K-12 science teachers.
        7. I’m very good with PowerPoint.

      12. M.S Instructional Technology. Enrolled Fall 2006. Expected graduation date is Fall 2007.
        Taught AP Computer Programming in C++ language for a year at high school level. I would like to continue technology discovery and application for both business and educational setting. Willing to help with productivity software and tools.

        3. I don’t have formal teaching experience.
        4. Informal teaching experience: I help our staff with computer software on a one-on-one basis.
        5. I would like to be a technology coordinator in either school or business setting.
        6. I would like to learn about how technology can be effectively used in schools.
        7. I know some tips and tricks of Microsoft Office applications.

        2. M.S in Instructional Technology- I began the program in fall of 2006 and plan to complete by spring 2008.
        3. Formal Teaching Experience- I taught computer studies and mathematics for two years at secondary schools in Maldives.
        I also taught mathematics and physics prior to my undegraduate degree in computer science.
        4. Informal Teaching experience – I taught number of course at Maldives College of Higher Education as a part-time lecturer at Faculty of Management and Computing and Faculty of Education.
        5. I want to be a instructional designer
        6. Learn more tools and how its used in schools.
        7. I can be a resource for people who are having difficulty with Web programming.

        2. M.S. in Instructional Technology. I started the program in fall 2006. I would like to be finished this coming summer session 1 (2008).
        3. Currently this is my fourth year at Bangor High School. I am a business education teacher. I also student taught at Milton High School for a semester.
        4. I am the club advisor for FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). I have been doing this for four years.
        5. I hope to continue teaching and gaining a MBA degree. I might also like to work in a university or community college teaching business classes.
        6. Learn about technology learning tools for the classroom.
        7. A resource for people who need help with any Office software program or HTML.

        2. I am in the Learning Sciences and Technology PhD program. I intend to finish in 2009.
        3. I taught MS math for two years, HS math for one year, was a TA in the math department here at Lehigh for three years, and having been teaching math at LCCC for the last three years.
        4. Coached field hockey for two years.
        5. Teaching math and math ed class at the college level.
        6. To learn new ways to incorporate technology into the classroom.
        7. I can be a resource for people who want to learn how to use a SmartBoard.

        2. Ph.D. Program in Learning Sciences and Technology. Began summer 2006, intent to finish in 2010.
        3. Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Northampton Community College, Elementary school mathematics specialist.
        4. ?????
        5. I hope to be exactly where I am today, perhaps getting paid more.
        6. I want to learn more about possible technologies that could be incorporated in mathematics curricula.
        7. I can be a resource in power point and graphics calculators.

      19. 1. Educational leadership, began in 2006; will finish 08/2008, including principal certification.
        2. 10 years of teaching experience, most of it overseas. I have taught grades 3-10. Most recently I was a curriculum coordinator at the Åmerican International School of Bucharest.
        3. I started (and for three years) ran a school for street children in Bucharest (1997-2000). Before that I was a journalist for 10 years.
        4. I plan to return overseas was soon as this school year is over. My preference would be to take an assistant principalship at a fairly large school, though it is sometimes easier to get a principalship at a small school.
        5. Goal for the course: learn new techniques I can use when making presentations.
        6. Help topic: Technologically–nothing. But I know a lot about curriculum and instruction.
